Rendered in the most eye-catching shade of chartreuse green silk and cotton, embellished with claw set metal studs and glass faceted studs, with elegant chain stitch embroidery and pearl buttons, this original late 1940's dress and jacket novelty print ensemble is just the perfect addition to your vintage collection.
The pale chartreuse green silk dress, boasts a black novelty print of dogs surrounded by white scattered polkadots. The rounded neckline is framed by a white waffled cotton collar. The simple shoulder line, boasts gathered stitches, which radiate along each yoke in soft pleats, whilst setting off the short length sleeves. The shoulder seams are accented by internally sewn shoulder pads. The elegant bodice, boasts central pearl button fastenings, which are framed by double dart seams beneath the bust-line, drawing the eye to the fitted waist-panel, which is set off by a cotton pipped trim. The skirt seam beneath the waist-panel boasts gathered smocking stitches which enable the silk of the dress to drape in soft pleats along the length.
The chartreuse green cotton jacket, sits perfectly above the dress, allowing for the collar to be worn above the rounded neckline. The neckline of the jacket is edged with black cotton pipping, which trims either side of the front of the jacket, hemline and turned up cuffs. The simple shoulder line, draws the eye to the dolman cut 3/4 length sleeves which are finished with turned up cuffs. The fitted cut of the jacket features tailored darts along either side of the bust-line, and double dart seams along either side of the front of the waistline, drawing the waist in. The right hand side of the bust-line is decorated with an embroidered pattern of dogs in a chain stitch, surrounded by scattered silver coloured metal studs and finished with black faceted glass studs, creating the eyes. The jacket fastens centrally with pearlescent buttons, to match those along the front of the dress. This jacket is not lined.

Closures: This dress fastens along the side seam with a 9.5 inch metal zip and along the front with 7 pearl buttons and a concealed press studs. The jacket fastens with a concealed press stud and 10 pearl buttons.

Condition: This ensemble is in near perfect vintage condition. The dress shows very faint signs of discolouration and a small water mark along the armpits. Gentle and light age marks along the back internal part of the neckline ( nape). An area of wear to the silk along the left hand side seam above the zip opening. Two very faint age marks along the front part of the skirt hemline. A very small scattering of pin sized aged marks along the back central part of the skirt-line within the gathered pleats. The metal studs of the jacket show gentle signs of wear. Gentle signs of wear to the second pearl button fastenings along the jacket. These minor issues are not visible when the dress is being worn, and do not in any way detract from the beauty or quality of this piece.Please refer to the photographs as they form part of the condition report.
