This breathtaking late 1950's Norman Hartnell cocktail dress, on a silk base and fully embellished with trailing glass beadwork, glass rhinestones and pearlised bead accents is a rare piece of history to behold.
The rounded neckline is framed by a sleeveless cut and a border of decorative beadwork, accented by pearlised beads, silver rhinestones, and large teardrop shaped blue claw set rhinestones. Her elegant bodice, is decorated by turquoise blue glass bugle beads, sewn in a swirling pattern, like sand ripples. The waistline of the dress is set off by decorative side beaded panels, that match the beadwork along the neckline, drawing the eye to the double box pleats to either side of the front of the skirt, that drape from beneath the waist-line. These pleats create colour depth to the repeat glass beaded bugle sand ripple pattern, set off by a light variation in the shade of turquoise found in the glass beads. In true Hartnell fashion, this dress is fully beaded on a silk base, which is in turn lined by a silk under-dress. Both the under dress and the dress are lined in a soft cotton tulle.
