A Taste for Tartan

A Taste for Tartan

The tartan plaid has played the most outstanding role in the history of vintage fashion. When thinking back to the time when tartan first started, popular opinion would locate tartan's roots in Scottish heritage. However, the earliest examples of this beautiful plaid dates back to 3000 BC. Tartan serves as a mural and once again one is reminded that our modern trends have an intricate history to their fame. This is just one of the reasons why vintage fashion is so invaluable in today's fast fashion world.

Autumnal Inspirations

Autumnal Inspirations

As our favourite season fast approaches us, we cannot help but start thinking about those gorgeous palettes Autumn displays and how we can welcome them with open arms into our sweet little shop. As we are rooted in the rolling hills and towering woodlands of Devon we are not lacking inspiration. Autumn showers us with the most gorgeous shades of burgundy, amber, caramel and toffee flavours whilst blowing in the cooler weather and fallen leaves.

The Sculptural Bullet Bra

The Sculptural Bullet Bra

The Bullet Bra is the most remarkable piece of underwear and launched itself onto the fashion scene in the 1950's. After World War II Women were ready to reclaim their bodies and embrace all aspects of their femininity. This started with their careful selection of lingerie and inspiration was taken from the introduction of Dior's "New Look" which posed women with rounded hips, cinched in waistlines and prominent breasts.

The Twist of the Turban

The Twist of the Turban

The headscarf has fascinated us in the way it has continually been a symbol of power dressing and it is unsurprising that the contemporary style of the headscarf has now become the striking turban. Our team hold the headscarf dear to their hearts although we have noticed that after just a few hours of wearing such an item the scarf tilts slightly or your hair becomes displaced and frustration kicks in. One should never experience such feelings when wearing this beautiful item. This is why we have handmade every one of our turbans to last all day and all night (if one wishes!).

Our Spring Photo Shoot...

On many occasions the most inspiring ideas and plans for capturing our beautiful stock can come to mind and feel so exciting to initiate. Also on many occasions, the reality of bringing these ideas to fruition leave the initial idea lost in a blur of budget requirements, weather changes and sometimes, it just not working out.

The Last Buying Trip of 2017

The Last Buying Trip of 2017

We spend our morning going through beautiful vintage, and if it wasn't for the sudden drop in temperature, -4  I am sure we would have spent the entire day choosing new stock for the shop. It was so cold that my feet were numb and my hands were like ice, textiles always seem to be colder to the touch in the winter.
