Time between each shop has given me the chance to really work on interior design and style ideas. I've always had a passion for Art deco interiors, and having grown up in South East Asia, the IndoChine influence has always been an undercurrent in my style. Mixing the two influences together, to create a fusion between cultures has really come naturally in this project, and I am so excited to see it all piece together in June.
We have always been obsessed with this truly sumptuous fabric. Not only is it a great textile to keep one warm and snug during those winter months, it also creates an extremely flattering, elegant and sensuous silhouette. Whether velvet is the main element of a dress or shown on a cuff of a sleeve or a collar, this fabric makes one feel sophisticated and desired. Or perhaps velvet is seen on your favourite accessory, those small touches complete your chosen outfit. The perfect Christmas gift, there is always a place for velvet to shine under those festive lights.
The tartan plaid has played the most outstanding role in the history of vintage fashion. When thinking back to the time when tartan first started, popular opinion would locate tartan's roots in Scottish heritage. However, the earliest examples of this beautiful plaid dates back to 3000 BC. Tartan serves as a mural and once again one is reminded that our modern trends have an intricate history to their fame. This is just one of the reasons why vintage fashion is so invaluable in today's fast fashion world.
'The Vintage Hour' will take place once a month starting from October. There will be a different speaker discussing their own expertise from vintage to modern fashion. As our favourite season fast approaches us, we cannot help but start thinking about those gorgeous palettes Autumn displays and how we can welcome them with open arms into our sweet little shop. As we are rooted in the rolling hills and towering woodlands of Devon we are not lacking inspiration. Autumn showers us with the most gorgeous shades of burgundy, amber, caramel and toffee flavours whilst blowing in the cooler weather and fallen leaves.
The sophisticated sheer look is the leading lady in our autumn photoshoot this year. The question of whether or not a woman should bare her chest has been at the centre of recent debate. We feel it is our duty to make a compelling case in favour of showing some skin, whilst of course spinning our vintage twist on the matter.
The Bullet Bra is the most remarkable piece of underwear and launched itself onto the fashion scene in the 1950's. After World War II Women were ready to reclaim their bodies and embrace all aspects of their femininity. This started with their careful selection of lingerie and inspiration was taken from the introduction of Dior's "New Look" which posed women with rounded hips, cinched in waistlines and prominent breasts.
With the Goodwood Revival weekend fast approaching us we are delighted to present to you two of the most perfect 1940's dresses. Our two dresses are a visual testament to the ingenuity of the era and are a true celebration of British period fashion. Stride into the Goodwood Revival with a restored sense of national pride and we would be honoured to be at your side in assisting you to complete your look.
The headscarf has fascinated us in the way it has continually been a symbol of power dressing and it is unsurprising that the contemporary style of the headscarf has now become the striking turban. Our team hold the headscarf dear to their hearts although we have noticed that after just a few hours of wearing such an item the scarf tilts slightly or your hair becomes displaced and frustration kicks in. One should never experience such feelings when wearing this beautiful item. This is why we have handmade every one of our turbans to last all day and all night (if one wishes!).
We are delighted to present to you, our beloved readers, our summer style of 2018; pretty pedal pushers and cute crop tops. Both styles have burst their way onto the fashion scene and we could not be more excited. Blend these two together with a sweet sun hat and you have your summer fashion statement.
